Yes, we all know the history, but just in case you haven't had the opportunity to read the letter John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail on July 2, 1776, (when the legal separation from Great Britain was originally voted on), in anticipation of what this holiday would mean, take a moment to share in his vision:
The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.
My beautiful niece enjoying the promise of an afternoon of sugar.
Then, we ooed and ahhed at the small fry petting zoo.
These baby billy goats were just Ryan's size.
After the festivities, we bar-b-cued with friends and cooled off in their gigantic pool. Thanks Jennie,Ted and Jake! And then later in the evening, we took in our second firework show of the holiday...
thanks to The Pioneer Woman for her photo tips, actually, for the photo! :)
Finally, we headed home to love on our doggies and curl up in our beds, in our house, in our nation that our forefathers built.
A wonderful day. A wonderful country. A wonderful life.
God has Blessed America.
